Good safe pick. He will be an NHL player, they could have went for someone with more potential but there is nothing wrong with getting this kid. Also he only has one year of junior eligibility since his birthday is in December so they can get him to the AHL much faster which can really help him grow his game.

A good pick but there are concerns about his skating. Few of the first rounders will make the NHL this fall. I believe further development is not a bad idea or path.

I didn't think about his birthday and the AHL age rules. If they had drafted a European, the player could go to the AHL immediately for development. The CHL rules need to be updated for NA players that have outgrown the CHL leagues but wouldn't see enough ice time in the NHL to develop.

He just needs to build his acceleration from all the reports I have read and with Barb Underhill teaching him he can do that.

I think Liljegren could potentially have more upside but he comes with more unknowns then Foote and after the DeAngelo debacle I am ok with taking Foote instead. I think both will be NHLers.

Thought Barb Underhill was the Leafs power skating coach? Does she also work for the Lightning?

Liljegren was ranked near the top of draft list last year prior to his mono.

Foote will be better than his dad according to reports. Can't say I have seen any of these players. In SY we trust.

Yes she was the Lightning's skating coach before she starting working with Toronto. I think she is the skating coach for around 6-7 teams if I remember the article I read correctly.

Liljegren I agree was ranked higher, I have never seen him play. I have seen Foote, but I read pretty extensively on the guys the Bolts would possibly pick and Foote was the safer pick of the two. Both will be NHLers, I read today that both can become solid 2/3 guys.

Today is a hopeful, optimistic day for all teams. I expect Callan will be a very good addition. No buyers regret. It it would be interesting to hear the team's discussion on the choices. How they rank the various attributes and resolve differences of opinion.

Our Galacticstone friend will be happy to see that the Lightning picked a few more Russians.

Who is Volkov?

A 19 year old Russian left wing on Al Murray's best available list. That's all I know.

Sounds like he will join the huge list of rookies joining Syracuse next year.

Ingram
Cirelli
Stephens
Joseph
Yan
Tammela
Cernak
Spencer

now Volkov

Thats alot of rookies in Syracuse next year. Going to be interesting to see how they make up the veterans. They will need an enforcer again to protect all those kids.

Yup, Steve added to Russian collection. Too bad it's nigh impossible to find out any real information about either of them, especially Volkov.

If Foote turns out to be as good as his dad, then that's not too bad.
